Monica Chiedu

Monica is a Nigerian artist born in Lagos, although she spent most of her childhood years growing up in a village in the Niger Delta. With no formal training or art tuition, Monica’s style retains a raw and vibrant feel and reflects the influence of the traditional culture that is still part of rural village life in that part of Africa. Like many Nigerian children, she spent much of her time helping her family by working in the local markets and her art often draws on these early, vivid, childhood experiences. Monica is also greatly influenced by the role of women. She sees women as being central figures in African life and portrays both their beauty and responsibilities in the demanding role of mother and worker. Monica’s art has been professionally printed and these prints are uniquely available only through this gallery. They will not be found elsewhere. All prints are 590mm x 420mm.
